PATEK PHILIPPE REF. 570, A VERY RARE, FINE, OVERSIZED YELLOW GOLD Patek Philippe Calatrava, Genève.
Movement: Cal. 27 SC, stamped twice with the Geneva Quality Mark, rhodium-plated, fausses cotes decoration, 18 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold isochronism and 5 positions, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, swan-neck micrometer regulator.
Calatrava name was first adopted by the company Patek Philippe from the historical Spanish religious-military grouping created in the city of Calatrava (Nuova Castiglia) in 1158. It has become synonymous with the production of watches for gentleman. Transparent and simple design was immediately appreciated by lovers of high-end timepieces, and that is why it is produced still today in various forms.
The first Calatrava of Ref. 96 measuring 29-31 mm was produced by Patek in 1932.
Nowadays, the most appreciated by the watches collectors from that era is the ref. 570 produced by the maison from the year 1938 to 1939, initially with small seconds at an altitude of no. 6, and then with a second central, although the sizes of 35 mm are often called „oversize,” because thanks to its design it seems much larger.
Atelier Tempus believes that these references are fathers of all Calatrava more or less complicated.
