Patek Philippe Nautilus – strong design and reliability

The Nautilus collection was introduced in 1976. Patek Philippe was looking for a strong design and an inimitable personality. An inspiration for its design soon emerged: The universal shape of a porthole found on virtually all maritime vessels. The original model was the Ref. 3700/1 in steel. Since then, the Nautilus has established itself as a classic, elegant sports watch and the original reference is one of the most sought-after timepieces at auction. The new Nautilus collection showcases the flattering redesign of Patek Philippe’s casually elegant classic. It has gained style through subtle and carefully calculated changes while preserving its original spirit.

The Nautilus is probably the most iconic line with the Calatrava in Patek Philippe products and history. Patek advertising was „The rugged watch that feels right on every occasion”. Introduced in 1982 till 2006, this model was originally created for men with his comfortable 37.5 mm wide for the time. The present 3800/1A-001 still bears the original slate-grey dial, horizontal guilloche, with applied luminous white gold baton indexes and the Aprior mark at 6 to confirm it, aperture for the „porcelain” white date. The bracelet is original and engraved „Nautilus” inside the deployant clasp, with a very large overall lenght of 210 mm. The watch is powered by the cal. 330 SC (Seconde Centrale), 30 jewels, shock-absorber, an ultra-thin self-winding movement with sweep second hand and date, gold rotor. The well-built two-body case is water resistant to 120m. Extremely hard to find on the  market, this iconic model is actually very sought-after by collectors worldwide.

Case: Two-body, polished and brushed, sapphire crystal.

Dial: Black with horizontal stripes and applied luminous white gold baton indexes, outer minutes/seconds divisions, aperture for the date. Luminous white gold baton hands.
